Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has shared details of a secret meeting he had with Uhuru Kenyatta and his number two William Ruto a few years ago.
The former vice president says he was visited at his Karen home by Uhuru, Ruto and Jimmy Wanjigi – an influential city tycoon.
Musyoka was convinced the two leaders would rally behind his bid as he was vying for presidency but was met with rude shock by what Uhuru Kenyatta said:
“Stephen, we have decided that you should choose some other position, but not the presidency or deputy presidency,” Uhuru told Kalonzo to his face
Uhuru then stepped out of the room they were in and lit a cigarette. Puffed at it hard then dropped it to the ground and stumped it out with his foot, Tuko reports.
Upon coming back into the gazebo, Uhuru told Kalonzo that he was flying to Bujumbura and would be accompanied by Ngilu and Ruto.
It is at this point it dawned to him that Uhuru and Ruto were telling him to take what had been placed on the table or Ngilu would replace him in the alliance.
He says it is then, after that betrayal, that talks with Raila Odinga to form an alliance started.
Kalonzo remembers vividly his past in a compelling book that will be launched next week on Wednesday, December 21
