Seven doctors’ representatives were sentenced to a one-month jail term Monday, February 13, for contempt of court.
It means that the doctors officials will spend an entire month behind bars and their colleagues have vowed not to engage in any negotiations until they are set free.
Meanwhile, it seems the medics have already settled well in prison if photos circulating on social media are anything to go.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Ouma Oluga is one of the medics whose photos have sneaked into the limelight
Oluga was visited by family, relatives and friends on Tuesday, February 14, at the Kamiti Prison in Kiambu and is seen sharing a smile with them as he hugs and chats along.
The medic looks lively and it seems unlike what prison is known for, he was given a room with a bed and a chair
Doctors have been striking since December after the government apparently refused to honour a CBA they signed in 2013.
The Council of Governors went to court and claimed they were not part of the CBA and convinced the court to nullify the strike
