An ambulance driver was killed and three medics seriously wounded when their vehicle hit a landmine en-route to pick a patient in Garissa.
The incident occurred late Monday at Owane area between Hulugho and Sangaili just hours after 5 police officers were killed, others seriously injured by Al Shabaab in Mandera
According to the authorities, no arrest was made, but police says they were pursuing the attackers believed to have crossed over from neighbouring Somalia, or operating terror cells within the area.
“It is a very unfortunate attack. The driver died on the spot while the three others were taken to hospital in a serious condition,” a senior police officer said.
Police Headquarters was expected to release a statement on the incident later Tuesday.
Garissa County Communications boss Yusuf Korow said those wounded in the incident include a co-driver, a health nutritionist and a student who were admitted to the Hulugho Sub-County Hospital.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet has assured that security has been intensified in the northern part of the country in the wake of renewed terror attacks.
