The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM)’s planned Mombasa rally took a new twist after revealing through a press statement released by its Director of Elections and Campaigns Junnet Mohammed.
According to the Suna East MP, Raila Odinga’s party is expected to copy the Jubilee Party (JP) and brand 47 buses which will travel to all counties in the country beginning Thursday, September 8, to ferry supporters to Mombasa for the Saturday, September 10, rally.
“Tomorrow, the Deputy Party Leader will have an event to flag off 47 ODM branded buses from Mombasa to each of the forty seven counties of the republic. These buses will provide transport to party delegates from all over Kenya to participate in our jamboree,” Junnet said.
He also revealed that the party’s supporters have donated 823 vehicles to be branded for the event.
Upon the arrival of Raila in Mombasa on Friday, September 9, there will be a series of roadshows as delegates assemble to welcome him to Mombasa, he added.
“That Friday evening, the Deputy Party Leader (Hassan Joho) shall host a private reception in honor of the Raila Odinga and Mama Ida where 450 MCAs, 110 MPs, 18 senators and at least 10 governors have confirmed attendance over and above the delegates from all over Kenya,” Junnet said further.
The rally is expected to take place on Saturday, the same day President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy, William Ruto, will be unveiling the newly formed Jubilee Party.
The ruling coalition has already branded more than 40 Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) with the new party colours and purchased a mega 7-storey building for the event.
It is prudent to say that a major showdown is expected on the same day as the two parties battle for supremacy ahead of the 2017 polls
