According to a list published by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), the Opposition is leading in the number of polling stations in their strongholds.

The National Super Alliance (NASA) has taken a commanding lead with 2,000 more polling stations than the ruling party Jubilee has in its perceived strongholds.

DID YOU MISS THIS?

Coast, Western, Nyanza and Ukambani regions that are considered NASA zones have a collective tally of 17,000 polling stations while Mt Kenya and Rift Valley regions that are friendly to the Jubilee Party have a combined total of 15,000 polling stations

The numbers were released yesterday days after the NASA coalition accused the IEBC of having set up secret polling stations for the Jubilee Party to aid them in rigging the election.

The IEBC dismissed the allegations saying elections will be free and fair

For instance, Machakos Town constituency that has 109,877 registered voters is assigned 213 polling stations while a constituency in a Jubilee stronghold with a similar number of voters, Kieni in Nyeri county, with 109,001 voters has 227 polling stations.

In Tharaka Nithi, Maara Constituency which has 68,729 voters has been assigned 182 polling stations while in Mombasa County, Jomvu which has 69,307 registered voters has 109 polling stations.

IEBC has set the limit of voters per polling stations at 700 up from the 500 figure which was scraped from the Electoral Laws Act in 2016

The revelation shed light to the fact that , The National Super Alliance is the most preferred party followed by Jubilee in Nairobi, an opinion poll says.

The trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA) research conducted between July 1 and 2, says that eight out of seventeen constituencies are NASA strongholds, six Jubilee’s strongholds and three others being hotly contested.

Ruaraka, Kibra, Embakasi South, Dagoreti North, Embakasi Central, Langata, Mathare and Embakasi East constituencies have all been branded NASA strong holds.
Jubilee enjoys majority support in Starehe, Dagoreti South, Roysambu, Kamukunji, Embakasi North and Kasarani. Westlands, Makadara and Embakasi West are all up for grabs with just 32 days to the August polls
