Kenyan MP’s for the longest time possible have been ranked the second-highest paid lawmakers in the world, beating their counterparts from the developed economies of US, Britain and Japan.
According to a recent study before the agreement to cut off salaries, A study by the UK-based Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) revealed that the MPs’ basic pay, which excludes allowances, was 76 times Kenya’s GDP per capita of Sh84,624.

Now, Kenyan Members of County Assembly salaries and allowances is the reason why everyone wants to be an MCA.
The current minimum remuneration package for an MCA is Sh185,200 while the highest is more than Sh217,000.
According to the controller of budget, the highest paid MCAs in Kenya are those from Uasin Gishu with earnings of around Ksh312,339 per month.
The lowest paying county in terms of sitting allowances is Vihiga where the MCAs earn an average of ksh12,225 per month
