Two journalists from Royal Media Services (RMS) and Nation Media Group (NMG) were on Sunday morning thoroughly beaten by security guards from Kakuzi Limited – a company in Muranga County.
Julius Kariithi of Inooro Fm and James Mburuof NTV had gone to cover a protest where learners were demonstrating against alleged grabbing of part of their school land by the firm.
According to Kariithi, the guards unleashed their wrath on them after realising they had been captured harassing and beating the rioting students from Gititu Secondary School.
“My colleague suffered broken ribs and foot while my hand was also injured” Kariithi was quoted by K24.
The journalists have since recorded statements with the police over the brutal attack. Reports indicate that some of the students were injured during the demonstrations.
Meanwhile, a Standard newspaper journalist, Joseph Masha, died mysteriously on Saturday morning a day after having dinner with a local politician.
Reports indicate that Masha and the said politician were not in good terms over what he termed bad coverage by the journalist.
The family has asked the government to conduct investigations to unearth what really killed their kin.
